SAINT LEO, Fla. – The thirteenth-ranked Saint Leo University women's tennis team defeated the ninth-ranked Greyhounds of the University of Indianapolis on Friday afternoon at home, 4-0. With the victory the Lions improved to 9-5 on the season while the Greyhounds fall to 4-4 in 2024.
Saint Leo opened the match with a 6-3 win at number three doubles by
Madelyn Martin and Kamilya Shilina. UIndy tied doubles play with a 6-3 win at number two doubles. The fifth-ranked doubles pair of
Luzia Obermeier and
Lavinia Lancellotti clinched the doubles point for the home team winning tie breaker fashion for a 7-6(5) final.
The match was played to clinch as the Lions earned the match victory with singles wins at one, two, and three.
Claudia Borbon Roca won both sets 6-2 to put Saint Leo up 2-0. The final two matches went to a third and decided set as UIndy won the second set at one and two but Obermeier at number one and Lancellotti at number two both won the final set 6-3 to clinch the match for the home team.
The win marked the first top-10 victory for the Lions in 2024.
