SAINT LEO, Fla. – The thirteenth-ranked Saint Leo women's tennis team picked up a regional victory on Wednesday afternoon against #38 Mississippi College. The Lions clinched a 4-3 victory with a victory at number one singles at the Saint Leo Tennis Center.
The Lions earned doubles wins at number one and three to claim the doubles point.
In the first doubles match, junior
Luzia Obermeier and senior
Lavinia Lancellotti earned a 6-1 victory followed by freshman
Madelyn Martin and junior
Kamilya Shailina earned a 6-4 win to clinch the doubles point for the home team.
The Lions and Choctaws spit the singles matches 3-3.
Claudia Borbon Roca put the home team up 2-0 with a 6-2 and 6-1 victory. Mississippi College earned its first win with a two-set victory at number four singles.
Lavinia Lancellotti and Obermeier won back-to-back to clinch the match for Saint Leo with wins at number two and one singles. The Choctaws closed out the match with wins at number six and five singles to put the final at 4-3.
