MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – The 20th-ranked Saint Leo University softball team suffered its first Sunshine State Conference loss of the season on Friday night at Barry. A third-inning RBI base hit was all the Bucs needed to halt the Lions win streak at nine games.
Saint Leo falls to 13-4 on the season and 6-1 in SSC play. Barry improves to 12-7 overall and 5-2 in conference action.
In what was a pitching duel on the diamond on Friday night, the Buccaneers broke through with a two out RBI base hit to drive in the games only run.
The Lions gave themselves opportunity to score early getting base runners in the first and second inning but just couldn't push anything across the plate.
Both pitchers were essentially light's out. Despite picking up her first loss of the season,
Morgan Shannon pitched six innings of one hit softball while scattering four hits, a walk, allowing just one run. She also had two strikeouts.
Barry's Maci Barnhart pitched a seven inning shutout allowing five hits and three walks, while striking out two.
