MELBOURNE, Fla. – Saint Leo University senior softball catcher, Madyson Coe was named Sunshine State Conference softball Player of the Week as announced by the conference office on Monday. Coe's performance over the weekend helped lead the Lions to a 3-1 record to open the 2024 season.

Coe contributed significantly to the 18th-ranked Lions going 3-1 on the opening weekend of 2024 at the Gulf Shores Invitational. The senior catcher went 6-for-11 posting a .545 average, two doubles, a triple, and a home run, four RBI, two walks, and two runs scored while catching 29 innings.

She had a hit in all four games including a pair of multi-hit games on the second day. The senior put the Lions up by a touchdown in the second inning of a 10-4 win over Valdosta State as her two-RBI double capped a seven-run second inning. She hit her first career homer on a solo shot down the right field line to give the Lions a 3-1 lead en route to a 6-5 Saint Leo win over AUM.

In the opening game, a 7-2 win over West Georgia, Coe's alertness helped start an inning-ending double-play as she caught a bunt and fired over to first to double off the runner. In the field, she had 28 putouts and three assists while committing just one error. 

Coe leads the SSC with a 1.182 slugging percentage. She is the only SSC batter with a +1 slugging percentage, and also leads the SSC with a 1.753 OPS.

The Lions are back in action this weekend at they make the trip to St. Augustine for the Old Coast Classic (Feb. 9-10) hosted by Flagler College. In St. Augustine, the Lions will play four total games against Edward Waters (Fla.), Wingate (2), and Converse.
