Women's Tennis Opens 2024 with First Place Finish at PTR Collegiate Cup

SAINT LEO, Fla. – The fifth-ranked Saint Leo University women's tennis team went 2-0 on day one of the 2024 season to secure first-place at the 2024 PTR Collegiate Cup. The four-team event was hosted between the Saint Leo Tennis Center and Saddlebrook Resort in Wesley Chapel. Francis Marion, #16 Georgia College, and Tusculum made the trip south to compete in the two-match tournament.

Saint Leo was matched up against Francis Marion in the opening round. Playing to clinch, the Lions defeated FMU, 4-0 at home. Luiza Obermeier and Lavinia Lancellotti started the day off with a 6-2 doubles win at number one. Saint Leo clinched the doubles point as the Lions number three doubles team of Kamilya Shailina and Claudia Borbon Roca picked up a 6-2 victory.

Shailina (6-3, 6-1) quickly put the Lions up 2-0 with a win in straight sets over FMU's Julie Marincova at number three singles. Following another straight set victory, Nicole Dufor (6-4, 6-2) gave Saint Leo a 3-0 lead with a win at number one singles. The Lions clinched the match as Camila Keller easily handed her opponent a straight set loss (6-1-, 6-3).

With the win over Francis Marion, the Lions made the trip over to Saddlebrook Resort where #16 Georgia College, fresh off a 4-1 win over Tusculum, was waiting for Saint Leo.

The Lions made easy work of the Bobcats, picking up their second 4-0 victory on the day to claim first place at the 2024 PTR Collegiate Cup.

Saint Leo's number three doubles team of Shailina and Madelyn Martin opened the match with a 6-2 win. The Lions number one doubles team of Obermeier and Lancellotti clinched the doubles point with a 6-3 victory.

Dufour (6-2, 6-4) won in straight sets at number one singles to put the Green and Gold up 2-0. Following a two-set victory at number four singles by Lancellotti, Shailina (5-7, 6-3, 6-3) clinched the match point with a three-set victory.
