Men's Basketball Shines on Senior Night, Edges Florida Tech in a Thriller 67-65

SAINT LEO, Fla – The Saint Leo lions men's basketball team hosted Florida Tech for Senior Night at the Marion Bowman Activities Center Saturday night. The Lions recognized five seniors Grant Disken, Cantia Rahming, Kanon Koster, Jeremy Sanchez, and Chase Freymiller. In Senior Night showdown, the Lions clawed their way to a dramatic 67-65 victory over the Florida Tech Panthers, sending their seniors off in style. The Lions battled back from a first-half deficit to secure the win in front of a packed Bowman Center.

From the opening tip, both teams showed tenacity and determination, exchanging baskets early. The Panthers surged ahead in the first half, capitalizing on their offensive opportunities to take a commanding 38-25 lead into halftime.

However, the Lions refused to back down. Led by their senior standouts, Grant Disken and Cantia Rahming, the Lions mounted a furious comeback in the second half. Disken showcased his lights out scoring, pouring in 28 points on an impressive 10-of-20 shooting performance, including a clutch three-pointer late in the game to ignite the Lions. Rahming dominated the paint, contributing 12 points and hauling in a game-high 9 rebounds.

The Lions found themselves 28-49 early in the second half but their belief in themselves never wavered. They outscored the Panthers 39-16 after that point to pull out the thrilling victory. Despite the Panthers' valiant effort, they were unable to withstand the Lions' late-game surge.

As the tension mounted in the closing minutes, it was the Lions resilience and composure that ultimately propelled them to victory. Kanon Koster provided crucial contributions off the bench, with 11 points and 3 steals providing a spark on both ends of the floor. Alex Sherwood also added great minutes off the beach with hustle plays and being a defensive anchor with 3 blocks on the night.

In a fitting tribute to their seniors, the Lions delivered a memorable performance on Senior Night, showcasing their fighting spirit to pull out the win.

With the win, Saint Leo improves to 10-16 overall and 5-13 in Sunshine State Conference play, while Florida Tech falls to 15-10 overall and 8-10 in conference action.

Head Coach Lance Randall after the dramatic win: "I'm happy for our seniors, they showed a ton of grit. Grant Disken was amazing in that second half. He was not to be denied. That second half the value of playing harder than your opponent was on full display".

The Lions will return home next week Wednesday February 28th to take on the Fighting Knights of Lynn University. The Lions have two more games remaining in the regular season and look to finish on a winning streak. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
