SAINT LEO, Fla. – The 20th-ranked Saint Leo University softball team opened the home portion of its schedule with a 5-3 win over the Palm Beach Atlantic Sailfish on Friday night at University Softball Stadium. The game was moved up moved up an hour to due weather and it was the right call as the game was halted with one out in the top of the fifth and was in a delay for nearly three hours. Saint Leo was leading 4-0 at the time of the delay.
The Lions collected 10 hits with
Alexis Barber,
Madyson Coe, and
Hailey Beuerlein each getting two hits.
Morgan Shannon pitched 4.1 innings of scoreless softball before the delay as she took a no hitter into the fourth inning.

- Saint Leo cashed in early as Coe put runners on second and third with one out. Beuerlein drove in the first run of the game as she flied out to right and Hailey Thomas tagged up and scored.
- Two innings later, Coe and Beuerlein had back-to-back RBI base hits to put the Lions up 3-0 after three innings.
- Hope Epps collected her first hit of the game as she sent an RBI base hit to right scoring Jayla Brooks for a 4-0 lead.
- After a nearly two and a half hour rain delay, the teams resumed with one out in the top of the fifth and the Sailfish were ready. Four straight runners reached base on a walk, two singles and a fielder's choice. With runners on first and third, a base hit to left drove in the lead runner putting PBA on the board. The Lions caught a break ending the Sailfish threat as the runner at first was called out for leaving early as she took off for second before the pitcher has released the ball.
- PBA added two runs in the top of the sixth on back-to-back RBI hits with two outs to cut the Lions lead to just one run.
- Saint Leo pulled off a double steal that saw Alyssa Perez steal home for a 5-3 advantage.
- Kayla Betts sent the Sailfish down in order in the top of the seventh to secure the victory nearly four hours after the first pitch.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Betts picked up her first save of the season.
- Morgan Shannon improved to 5-0 on the season. She struck out five batters to bring her season total to 25.
- Hailey Beuerlein improved her batting average to a team-best .472 and leads the SSC with 19 RBI.
