SAINT LEO, Fla. – The No. 21 Saint Leo baseball team earned a doubleheader sweep versus USC Beaufort in non-conference action at Southard B. Thomas Stadium on Friday night. The Lions won game one 9-1, followed by a thrilling 9-8 victory in game two.
With the wins, the Green and Gold improve to 7-1 on the season while the Sand Sharks fall to 3-6 overall.
Game One: #21 Saint Leo 9, USC Beaufort 1
- The Lions surged forward to a 2-0 lead in first after sacrifice-fly and score on a fielder's choice
- Saint Leo extended its lead to 4-0 in the fourth after a throwing error from USC Beaufort
- The Green and Gold added two runs in the sixth after a pair of RBI-singles
- Caleb Adams launched a solo homer in the seventh, Lions score two more runs, 9-0
- Luke Lashutka earned his third win on the season (3-0), strikes out seven batters in 7.0 innings
Game Two: #21 Saint Leo 9, USC Beaufort 8
- Sand Sharks strike early with a two-run first inning
- Callan Moss blasted a two-run homer to right center in bottom of the first to tie the game, 2-2
- Dylan Mass crossed the dish on a passed ball in the third, Lions obtained a 3-2 advantage
- USC Beaufort grasped a 4-3 edge after two-run double in the fifth
- The Green and Gold ignited for four runs in the fifth, two of which on a home run from Mikey Scott, 7-4
- During the eighth, the Sand Sharks battle back to tie the game at eight.
- Yazael Nunez walked-off the Lions to victory on an RBI-single to right field
The Lions return to the field, tomorrow, Saturday, February 17 as they conclude their weekend series against USC Beaufort at home with a single game scheduled to start at 10 a.m.
