Four Hat Tricks Highlight 16-10 Men's Lacrosse Win Over Rockhurst

SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Saint Leo University men's lacrosse team jumped out to a 5-0 lead in its home opener on Sunday at University Turf Stadium and never looked back. The Lions defeated the visiting Hawks from Rockhurst University, 16-10.

Goalie Chase Strait made 17 saves on 27 shots faces in the crease for the Green and Gold. A quartet of Lions had a had trick. Greg Palmer and Aidan Knoetgen led the home team with eight points as each player tallied three goals and five assists. Guy Bistro followed with six points on three goals and three assists. Isaac Wills also recorded a hat trick on the day with three goals. Adem Tekmen, Owen Wills, John Raucci, and Matthew Cleary also tallied goals in the win.

  • The Lions wasted no time getting things goin in the first quarter. Raucci opened the scoring with a goal at 13:13 that began a five goal run for the Lions as Knoetgen tallied an assist on three of those five goals.
  • Guy Bistrow took very little time after getting his first goal of the game to recording his second goal of the game. Seven seconds ticked off the clock between Bistrows first and second goal to give the Lions a 5-0 lead.
  • The teams ended the opening quarter trading goals as the home team took an 8-3 advantage into the second quarter.
  • Rockhurst won the second with a 3-1 margin cutting into the Lions lead but the home team held on to a 9-6 lead at the half.
  • Just like the second quarter, the third quarter saw very little scoring as the Lions got a man-up goal from I. Wills and Palmer putting Saint Leo at an 11-6 advantage. Palmer's goal proved to be the eventual game-winning goal.
  • The Lions went on a 3-1 run to open the fourth quarter with goals from Cleary, Knoetgen, and I. Wills.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Saint Leo had a 61-49 shot advantage including a 31-27 shot on goal margin.
  • The Hawks edged out the Lions for 38 ground balls to 35 by the home team.
  • The Lions won 15 of 29 faceoffs with Michael Flores winning a game-high 13.
  • Both teams capitalized on an extra man opportunity as Saint Leo had five chances to three by Rockhurst.


 The Lions hit the road for their next game. Saint Leo will take on Lincoln Memorial at Berry College in Berry, Ga. for a noon opening face off.
