SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Saint Leo women's basketball team collected a 76-50 win over Flagler in a non-conference contest at home in the Marion Bowman Center on Tuesday night.
Head coach
Anthony Crocitto stated, "We're stilling figuring it out, which is scary because this group is so talented. I think conditioning-wise we need to have our rotation in exceptional shape. We've gotta be able to make open shots. There were a lot of points out there in that stretch where we didn't finish. Pressure shooting, playing with a lead, conditioning, and you could always do a little more rebounding. These girls dug-in and we came out hustling."
"Vanessa commanded the floor, got to her spots and didn't take a bad shot all game. Alanis was a beast on the boards with her double-double and Taydra was a deep threat with the three-ball", Crocitto said.
The Lions were a treat in the paint with 32 points and going coast to coast with 14 fastbreak points. The Green and Gold also capitalized on the Saints' turnovers with 16 points off turnovers. Saint Leo shot an impressive 46.7 percent from the field and a staggering 92.9 percent from the charity stripe.
The Lions had four players score in double-digits, led by freshman
Vanessa McManus with 19 points in addition to two rebounds, two blocks, and two assists. Redshirt junior
Chynna Mattair registered 18 points on 6-for-11 shooting from the field while collecting four rebounds. Junior
Taydra Simpson tallied 13 points and laced a trio of three-pointers. Junior
Alanis Diaz notched her first double-double of the season with 13 points and 11 boards.
Saint Leo returns to the hardwood on Saturday, November 23 as it travels to face Florida Tech in the Sunshine State Conference opener with tip-off slated for 2 p.m.
