SAINT LEO, Fla. – Saint Leo University women's soccer team saw its four-game unbeaten streak come to an end on Wednesday night at home. The Lions fell 1-0 to Rollins College in Sunshine State Conference play on senior night. The Lions were unable to find the equalizer despite a seven save night for sophomore goalkeeper
Hannah Goetzer. Saint Leo falls to 7-4-3 overall and 3-3-2 in the SSC while Rollins improves to 8-3-1 overall and 5-2 in conference play.
Goetzer made seven saves on the night and conceded just her second goal in the past five games. The Lions recorded just four shots on the night with
Ella Owen leading the team with two and
Franziska Theus and
Katja May also tallying a shot. Owen and May both registered a shot on goal.
Prior to the game the Lions honored its senior class of 2024.
During the day the women's soccer team hosted its annual Be The Match event as it honored the life and legacy of one of their alumna, Jasmine Johnson. This cause was near and dear to Jasmine, and the alumnae and team wanted to bring back Leukemia Awareness Night in her honor.
ROLLINS 1, SAINT LEO 0
- Rollins wasted no time attempting to get on the board early with three shots in the first 20 minutes forcing Goetzer to make a save in the 15th minute.
- In the 21st minute, Owen attempted to get the Lions on the board first with her first shot of the night but it was right at the Tars keeper for the save to keep the game scoreless.
- The Tars responded with the lone goal of the game in the 22nd minute on a strike through the middle of the box that got past a diving Goetzer.
- The visitors were quick to turn up its attack registering five shots over the next 10 minutes as Goetzer made three more saves. Following Goetzers fifth save of the half. registered the first shot of the night in the 12th minute on a shot off target over the goal. Lynn was quick on the attack with an early cross that Goezter was able to intercept to prevent the visiting attack.
- Saint Leo closed out the opening half with a pair of shots by Owen and Theus as both shots were sent over the goal.
- Goetzer was forced to make back-to-back saves early in the second half as Rollins attempted to add on to its lead.
- The defense was strong on both sides of the field as the visitors were the only team to register a pair of shots in the middle part of the second half.
- May had a great chance to find the equalizer in the final six minutes as she sent a ball to the goal that was barely saved by the Tars keeper.

Saint Leo hits the road for its final three games of the regular season. First up for the Lions is a quick trip over to Tampa on Saturday, November 2 for a 7 p.m. kick off against the Spartans.
