Women's Soccer Falls 1-0 to #19 Florida Tech

SAINT LEO, Fla. – Saint Leo University women's soccer team dopped its first Sunshine State Conference matchup of the season on Wednesday night against #19 Florida Tech. The Panthers scored the game's lone score at the six-minute mark. Saint Leo sophomore goalkeeper Hannah Goetzer made eight saves in the game as the Lions fell to 4-2-2 and 1-1-1 in SSC play. The 19th-ranked Panthers improved to 5-1-0 and 2-0 in SSC action.

Saint Leo settled for a single shot on the night late in the second half off the foot of Katja May.

#19 FLORIDA TECH 1, SAINT LEO 0
  • Goetzer made her first save of the night early as the Panthers attack came out swinging. A shot off the foot of Tech's Sara Batchadji was right on target that Goetzer easily corralled for the save.
  • At the six-minute mark, Tech's Marta Llopis slotted a ball though the Lions defense that made its way past Goezter for the early 1-0 advantage.
  • Tech's attack went right back to work following the goal putting its second shot on goal but Goetzer was in the right spot to make her second save of the game.
  • Goetzer made four more saves over the course of the first 45 giving the Lions a chance to find the equalizer.
  • Saint Leo's attack struggled to get any deep balls in the attacking zone as many passes though out the game were intercepted by a tight Panthers defense.
  • Following a corner kick by Florida Tech, Goetzer made a timely save on a hard shot right on goal. The sophomore keeper was able to redirect the ball over the crossbar to keep it a one goal game.
  • Saint Leo got its first real scoring change late in the second half as the Lions were able to keep a ball on the attack. The Lions got a ball deep in the box that Katja May got a foot on and redirected it towards the goal but it was right at the keeper.
  • Saint Leo was shut out for the first time this season as it was held to its lowest shot total in 2024.
