Volleyball Swept by Nova Southeastern, 3-0

FT. LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Saint Leo volleyball were swept 3-0 in a Sunshine State Conference (SSC) matchup on Friday night at Nova Southeastern. With the loss, the Lions fall to 4-8 on the season behind a 0-4 mark in conference play.

The Sharks held a 9-3 lead in the first set before the Green and Gold captured the following five points to trim its deficit to 9-8. Nova Southeastern answered by extending its advantage to 14-8 before claiming a 21-12 edge. Saint Leo cut the Sharks' lead to 22-16 after junior Paula Rosales Perez registered a kill and Nova Southeastern committed a pair of attacking error, however, the Sharks won the set 25-16.

Nova Southeastern only mustered a slight 7-6 lead in the beginning of the second set before conducting a 6-2 run to gain a 13-8 advantage. The Sharks eventually earned its largest lead of the set a seven-point, 18-11, cushion. The Lions pulled within four points a freshman Madison Moore ignited a 4-1 run with a kill, 20-16. Nova Southeastern halted the Green and Gold momentum to collect a 25-19 set victory.

In the third frame, the Sharks jumped out in front with a 9-3 lead as they maintained their six-point cushion with a 14-8 advantage. Kills from seniors Sheila Rodriguez and Oliwia Durka in addition to an attacking error from Nova Southeastern cut its lead to 15-11. The Sharks regained control of the set with four consecutive points, 19-11 and finished off the match with a 25-16 margin.

Moore recorded eight kills and two solo blocks and hit at a .217 clip. Durka earned six kills, two digs, and two assisted blocks. Perez Rosales registered five kills and a trio of digs. Sophomore Molly Chappell collected 13 digs and three kills. Junior Tajma Muharemovic notched 12 assists and six digs. Senior Sophia Leon-Tabor dished out nine assists with three digs.

Saint Leo concludes its three-game road trip tomorrow, Saturday, October 19 as it travels to compete against Florida Tech in a conference bout, starting at 4 p.m.
