ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – Saint Leo University men's basketball's late rally fell just short in a back-and-forth Saturday evening showdown at the McArthur Center. In a game that saw neither team lead by more than eight points, ultimately it was the home team who ended with an 84-81 triumph.
The game kicked off with both teams trading baskets, and at halftime, the Lions found themselves trailing by a slim margin, 37-33. The second half witnessed an offensive surge from both sides, with the Lions mounting a strong comeback bid.
Logan Ryan led the Lions with an impressive 18-point performance, connecting on five three-pointers and contributing to the team's efficient shooting throughout the game.
Cantia Rahming played a pivotal role, recording a double-double with 14 points and a game-high nine rebounds.
Joseph Locandro (12),
Grant Disken (12), and
Greyson Pritzl (10) also tallied double-digit points for the Lions.
The Lions showcased an impressive shooting display, finishing the game with a 58.3% field goal percentage and a remarkable 55.6% accuracy from beyond the arc. The team's ability to convert opportunities from the free-throw line also stood out, finishing at an impressive 78.9%.
Despite the Lions' commendable efforts, the Tritons managed to secure the victory with Isaiah Placide leading the charge with 22 points. George Kimble and Carr Thiam also played pivotal roles in Eckerd's offensive arsenal, combining for 29 points.
The contest featured six lead changes and seven ties, highlighting the competitive nature of the game. The Lions won the battle in the paint recording 34 points to 22 by the Tritons.
Saint Leo returns home to host Tampa on Wednesday, January 31 for its White Out game. The Lions will open February with a trip down south to Barry (Feb. 3).
