SAINT LEO, Fla. – After a back and forth battle, the Lions fall short to Lander University 1-2.
Ainsley Meyer converted on a beautiful chip shot off of a volley assist by Elise McDonald in the 35th minute to tally her first goal of the season.
Lander University (3-0-0) extended its win streak to three straight with the first goal of the night early in the 4th minute followed by the eventual go-ahead goal in the 86th minute.
Despite being down by one early in the match, Saint Leo was able to keep the offensive pressure on the Bearcats.
Lions' goalkeeper, Hannah Goetzer continued to lead the back line with 11 saves, bringing her season count to 23 in just three appearances.
The Bearcats escaped the Lions in a 2-1 in the home opener for the Green & Gold.
The Lions kept this game competitive all night until the end with a late goal from the Bearcats.
Saint Leo will turn its' attention to Sunday, Sept. 10th at 11:00 a.m. to host Clayton State.
