SAINT LEO, Fla - The Saint Leo University Women's soccer team absolutely dominated in their first home win of the season that quickly became a goal-scoring fiesta Sunday Morning, as the Lions defeated Clayton State in a 7-0 blowout win at Saint Leo Soccer Field.
Saint Leo posted 15 total shots on the day, marking their highest number of shots this season.
Freshman Goalkeeper Hannah Goetzer saw 61 minutes of playing time, not seeing much action while in the goal before Junior Goalkeeper Amit Beilin took over to tend the twine for the rest of the match.
The Green & Gold struck first in the 6th minute, as Graduate Midfielder Raylyn Straubmuller recorded her first goal of the season courtesy of a setup from Freshman Defender Elise McDonald.
Followed by a goal in the 11th minute by Senior Midfielder Kristina Arwady extend the Lions' lead 2-0.
While Clayton State gave up one more goal right before the half, they found themselves down 0-3 going into the halftime break.
Right out of intermission, Sophomore Midfielder Katja May found a wide open player in Freshman Defender Alva Nabb who took it the distance and converted a beautiful right foot finish on the left side to keep the pressure on while extending the lead to 4-0.
Both Freshman Midfielder Franziska Theus and Freshman Forward Olivia Shuck would both find themselves with goals in the 62nd and 76th minute in this game to make it 6-0.
This was easily the most impressive match of the season for the Green & Gold with 6 different players registering a goal.
An own goal by Clayton State in the 82nd would wrap this game up and the Green & Gold dismantle the Loch's at home to complete the Lions' 6-0 rout of the Tigers.
The Lions open Sunshine State Conference play next Wednesday at home, taking on the Spartacus of University of Tampa. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m.
