LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Saint Leo University softball team continues to rack up postseason accolades, as the Division II Conference Commissioner's Association (D2CCA) announced Junior pitcher
Kayla Betts as the South Region Pitcher of the Year.
To say the Leesburg, Fla. native had a breakout 2023 season is a huge understatement, as the Betts finished the regular season leading the nation in Shutouts and Hits Allowed in Seven Innings, while ranking third in NCAA DII in Saves and ERA and fourth in Strikeouts. Betts topped off the regular season pitching a perfect game in an 8-0 win over Rollins. Betts brought in weekly accolades for her pitching efforts as a seven-time Sunshine State Conference Pitcher of the Week, winning the Wilson/NFCA Pitcher of the Week award. Recently, Betts was named the Sunshine State Conference's Pitcher of the Year in addition to being selected to the First and All-Defensive Teams.
Betts, along with Junior infielder
Alexandra Hare, were recently selected to represent the NFCA All-South Region First Team. Both players are eligible to be nominated for All-American honors, which will be announced Wednesday, May 24 at the NCAA Division II Championship banquet in Chattanooga, Tenn.
