SAINT LEO, FL - #1 ITA ranked Lions fight off Knights burst of energy to win first round of regionals 4-1 against Lynn University.
 
For doubles action, the Lions were tied 1-1 with hopes of winning the doubles point falling short with the Knights pulling away starting up 1-0.
 
The pairing of Nicolas Bacella and Luis Iriarte won their doubles matchup 6-3.
 
With a lot of pressure on the Lions heading into singles play, they needed to win four out of six matches to clinch a first-round victory.
 
#20 Martin Soukal swept both sets 6-0, 6-0 to give the Lions a hot start.
 
Following Soukal was Bacella with a 6-3, 6-2 win which kicked the Lions' momentum to another level.
 
Ghali Mensour stepped up at the six spot with a massive tide turning 6-1, 6-4 victory.
 
Luis Iriarte held the Lions' future in his hands as he was able to clinch a 3-6, 6-2, 6-4 three-set battle.
 
After a tough fought victory, the Lions are now looking at a SSC Tournament Final Rematch versus Barry University on April 28th at 10:00am.
