BOCA RATON, Fla. – On Friday afternoon, the #13 Saint Leo University softball team played its opening series' contest against Lynn, but the Lions could not overcome a three-run homer by the Fighting Knights in the fourth inning to fall 4-3 at Lynn University Softball Field.
Saint Leo (34-7, 15-4 SSC) was stunned at the plate, only generating one hit on the day made by Freshman infielder
Briana Neal. Junior pitcher
Kayla Betts (18-2) pitched a full six innings, allowing three earned runs with three hits while fanning four.
The Lions struck first in the second inning, scoring a pair of runs. A throwing error by Lynn catcher Destiny Torres brought in a run scored by Neal before Junior catcher

Shyanne Waller to give the Green & Gold a 2-0 lead.
Lynn changed the course of the contest in the fourth inning when a moon blast from pinch hitter Monique Poitevin gave the Fighting Knights a 3-2 lead before adding another run via Saint Leo infield error.
With runners on second and third In the bottom of the seventh inning, Sophomore outfielder
Caroline Barwick's RBI managed to cut the deficit to one run (4-3) before Lynn clinched the win with a 1-3 play on the next at-bat.
The Green & Gold are back in action Saturday with a doubleheader against the Fighting Knights. First pitch is set for Noon.
