VALDOSTA, Ga. – The #3 Saint Leo University Women's team returned to its winning ways Saturday evening, defeating #13 Auburn Montgomery 4-2 at the VSU Tennis Courts.
In the Doubles matches, the primary duo of Sixth-year
Marta Vicens Miquel and Junior Lavinia Lancelotti blanked Estefania Garcia and Regina Urbiola 6-0 while Sophomore duo
Luzia Obermeier and
Kamilya Shailina defeated Ane Ibarra and Melissa Yakup Pour 6-3 to sweep the Warhawks and take the first point of the match.
Vicens Miquel also shut out Garcia in Singles with a 6-0, 6-0 win. Obermeier's win was more impressive, besting #31 nationally-ranked and #10 South regionally-ranked Yakup Pour 6-1, 6-2. Shailina solidified the match win with a 7-5, 6-2 victory over Nahia Izco.
"We had a good start today in doubles against a very good AUM team" said Head Coach
Chad Berryhill. "Marta had a great day, not dropping a single game the whole day which is tough to do. Great team effort today and I'm overall pleased with the way we competed."
The Lions head to Lake Nona, Fla. Tuesday to face Augustana (S.D.) and Ferris State; first serve of the day is scheduled for 11 a.m.
