SAINT LEO, Fla- The Saint Leo baseball team wrapped up their series against Florida Tech Saturday afternoon. Florida Tech was able to steal the series from Saint Leo, defeating the Lions, 4-1 and 5-4.

With the losses the Lions drop to 6-9 on the season and 2-4 in the SSC.

GAME ONE
Â
The first game featured a pitchers duel up until the sixth inning.
Evan Wolf got the start for the Green and Gold on the mound for the first game of the doubleheader. Wolf tossed six frames, striking out three batters, allowing two runs and a walk.

The Panthers were able to score three unanswered runs throughout the fifth and sixth innings to lead the Lions 3-0.

After a
Dylan Mass walk to kick off the bottom of the sixth inning, the Lions were able to chip away at the Panthers lead when
Zach Benson would drive home the first run of the game for the Green & Gold with a double to the right field corner.

The Lions comeback hopes fell short as the Florida Tech held off Saint Leo to take the first game of the doubleheader, 4-1.

Sean Means earned the win for the Panthers, tossing five frames improving to 1-0 on the season. Ridge Starbek picked up his third save of the season.

GAME TWO
Â
Andrew Hazell started on the top of the hill for the Lions in game two of the doubleheader this afternoon. The Panthers were able to end Hazell's appearance early, jumping out to a three-run lead in the first inning.

Eddie Niemann III would drive in the first run of the game for the Green & Gold in the bottom of the fourth inning, bringing Mass home on a ground out to short.

Florida Tech would add to their lead in the top half of the fifth, scoring two runs.
Â
Niemann III would connect on a fastball to belt his third homer of the season , cutting the Panther lead to two runs in the bottom of the sixth. The two-run homer marked his second of the series.
Â
The Lions would put pressure on the Panthers in the seventh, cutting the Florida Tech lead to one run.
Mikey Scott led off the inning with a single to left center. After stealing a base to get into scoring position, Scott would find his way to third base on a
Buck Anderson sacrifice bunt.

The Panthers would spoil the Lions chance at a comeback, defeating Saint Leo, 5-4 to close out the series.

The Lions will return to Thomas B. Southard for a midweek matchup against Wilmington University, Tuesday, March 7th. First pitch is scheduled for 6 P.M.
