SAINT LEO, Fla. – The #2 Saint Leo women's Tennis team welcomed #19 Washburn University for a midweek showdown. The Lions were able to defeat the Ichabods, 6-1.
"Another good win for our team to add to our resume," said head coach
Chad Berryhill. "Washburn fought hard but our girls were up for the challenge. Monday matches can be tough, but we got good momentum after doubles and played solid with good composure in singles."
#6 ranked pairing of Lavinia Lancelloti and Marti Vicens Miquel took down #19 Maja Jung and Sofia Smagina to kick off doubles play, 7-5.
Luzia Obermeier and
Kamilya Shailina defeated Marta Torres and Cassie Curry in the second match, 7-6 and 7-4.
Claudia Borbon Roca and
Jade Bellegy closed out doubles action with a win for the Green & Gold against Isabella Pensavalle and Isabella Martensson, 6-1.

Marta Vicens Miquel upset #2 Sofia Smagina to kick off singles this afternoon. Vicens Miquel won in straight sets against the #2 ranked singles player, 6-3 and 6-2.
The Lions went on to take five of the six singles matches, #50 Obermeier, Lancelloti, Shailina, and Bellegy all earned wins against the Ichabods.
Saint Leo will travel to Valdosta, Georgia to battle against Valdosta State, March 24
th. The match is set to begin at 3:00 pm.
