SAINT LEO, Fla. – The #2 Saint Leo University women's tennis team traveled to Miami Shores, Florida to compete against conference rival #1 Barry University. The Lions fell to the Bucs, 1-6.
"A much more competitive match than the 6-1 score shows" said head coach
Chad Berryhill. "We let a couple matches get away from us late. I think we learned a lot today about what we need to do moving forward and I think this match will serve us well for future matches."
The Lions fought hard during the doubles portion of the match Saturday morning. The pairing of
Luzia Obermeier and
Kamilya Shailina fell short to Nathalia Gasparin and Dinara Alloiarova, 3-6.
Claudia Borbon Roca and
Jade Bellegy kept it close against Xiyao Wang and Selina Pichler but fell 4-6.
In singles,
Kamilya Shailina picked up the only win of the match for the Lions defeating #63 Selina Pichler, 6-4 and 6-2.

Marta Vicens Miquel fell to #1 Deniz Khazan after battling for three sets, 1-6,7-5, and 3-6. #11
Claudia Borbon Roca game back to force a third set but fell short to Dinara Alloiarova, 2-6, 6-4, and 5-7.
Saint Leo will return to action on March 20
th when they welcome #19 Washburn University. The match is set to begin at 3:00 pm at the Saint Leo Tennis Center.
