#22 Lions Douse the Flames in Doubleheader Sweep Over Lee

SAINT LEO, Fla. – The #22 Saint Leo University softball team picked up two South regional wins Saturday afternoon, defeating Lee University 4-0 in both games at University Softball Stadium.

Game One: #22 SLU 4, LEE 0
Fifth-year outfielder Bayley Williams stole the show at the plate, hitting 3-of-4 with three RBIs that fueled Saint Leo (24-3, 8-1 SSC) to another shutout win.  Junior pitcher Kayla Betts (11-0) pitched a complete game with two hits allowed and 13 strikeouts recorded.

A leadoff single by Sophomore outfielder Hope Epps and a hit-by-pitch on Junior infielder Alexandra Hare set up Williams to deliver a 2RBI double to put up a pair of runs in the second inning to strike first 2-0.

Williams came in clutch again in the fourth inning, bringing home Sophomore infielder Shyanne Waller with a RBI single before the Lions' alert baserunning skill sets gave way to Sophomore Caroline Barwick tacking on another run to extend the lead 4-0.

Outside of a hit given up in both the first and seventh innings, Betts went three up three down on Lee to preserve another shutout win for Saint Leo.

Game Two: #22 SLU 4, LEE 0
Despite being outhit 6-4, Saint Leo made the big plays needed to win the game and blank Lee once again.  Freshmen Briana Neal (2-for-2) and Haleigh Thomas (1-for-1) produced hits that positioned the Green & Gold for success at the dish.

Junior pitcher Kayla Swinson (5-2) pitched her first complete game of the season, conceding six hits and fanning five in the circle.

The Lions and Flames were deadlocked until the bottom of the fourth inning when a Lee throwing error allowed Freshman pinch runner Grace Dunsworth to advance home for the go-ahead run.  Moments later, Thomas' RBI double scored in Neal to extend the lead 2-0.

Freshman outfielder Nicole Magdziasz checked into the game as a pinch runner for Thomas and scored her sixth career run to put the Lions up 3-0.

Saint Leo iced the game in the sixth inning of an Epps' sacrifice bunt to bring in Fifth-year infielder Kendyl Crean to clinch another 4-0 win.

The Lions will look to secure the series sweep Sunday against Lee, as the first pitch is set for Noon.
