SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Saint Leo women's basketball team fall to first place Tampa Spartans 78-62.

After the loss, the Lions are now 11-12 overall and 4-12Â in Sunshine State Conference play.

The Lions started by playing tough defensive and staying within six points of the Spartans after the first quarter when the score ended 16-10 with Tampa in the lead.

By the close of the first half, Tampa began to slip away after a 20-point 2nd quarter led them to a 36-19 lead by halftime.

Senior
Amanda Ulrich was the brightest spot for Saint Leo as she reached double digits in the first half of the game.

In the third quarter, we saw the Lions claw back just a bit to make it a 12-point game going into the fourth quarter. Tampa led 59-47.

Ulrich went into the fourth with 16 points shooting 7-10 from the field. Her offensive kept Saint Leo within a fighting chance of Tampa.

Junior
Kiki McIntyre chipped in on the glass with four rebounds heading into the fourth as well.

The Spartans were able to hold of the Lions and win the game by a score of 78-62.

Ulrich led the Lions in scoring with 21 points total. She shot 3-6 from behind the arc. Her total shooting was 9-16 from the field.

The Lions will next be in action back at Marion Bowman Activities Center versus Nova Southeastern at 3:30pm on February 11th.
