MIAMI SHORES, Fla.- The Saint Leo baseball team closed out their series on Saturday with a doubleheader against Barry University. Barry would take the first game against the Lions, 10-5. Saint Leo would bounce back and take the final game of the series, 8-7.
GAME ONE
Andrew Hazell would get the nod to start the doubleheader. Hazell would toss 1.2 frames with four hits and two strikeouts, while allowing five runs.
Mikey Scott would score the first run of the game for the Green & Gold in the top of the second inning.
Barry would steal the lead from Saint Leo in the bottom of the second adding four to their tally to lead the Lions, 5-1.
Scott would get the Lions back on the board in the top of the third with a one run double up the middle.
Buck Anderson would bring home Scott with a one run single up the right side.
Barry would add to their lead in the bottom of the seventh, extending their lead to seven runs.
Yazael Nunez and
Ryan Robinson would both hit one run singles to get the Lions within five runs entering the ninth inning.
The Bucs were able to hold off the Lions in the first game,10-5.
GAME TWO
Game two featured a back-and-forth battle. The Lions were able to secure their victory late in the final game of the series scoring three runs in the top of the eighth.
Saint Leo came out of the gates with a charge and jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the top of the second inning. Eddie Niemann III would drive in the first run of the game with an RBI single up the middle.
Cooper Miles would follow up with a one run triple to deep center.
Barry would take the lead away from the Lions in the bottom of the third inning scoring three runs.
Niemann III would answer back for the Green & Gold with a two run homer to center.
After the Bucs would tie it up with a solo homerun in the bottom of the fourth.
Zach Benson would give the Lions the lead once again in the top of the fifth with an RBI single through the right side.
Bobby Sparling would ignite the eighth inning rally that would secure the Lions victory in the final game of the double header, reaching first after drawing a leadoff walk. Sparling would find himself in scoring position after stealing second. Sparling would score the first run of the inning after a throwing error. After the Lions would load the bases,
Adrien Roa would score the second run of the inning with an RBI single to right field.
Dylan Mass would drive in the winning run, drawing a bases loaded walk.
The Lions will be back in action on Friday, March 3
rd when they will return to Thomas B. Southard Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 6 PM.
