SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Saint Leo University Men's basketball team will conclude the regular season Saturday, as the Lions welcome Eckerd College for a Sunshine State Conference showdown on Senior Day.
The Green & Gold will recognize Fifth-year forward
Marty Jackson, Junior forward
Jared Coomer, and Redshirt fifth-year guard
Francis Sio.
After a thrilling 93-76 over Florida Southern Wednesday, Saint Leo (21-9, 12-7 SSC) is in the driver's seat to clinch the No. 2 seed in the Sunshine State Conference, which would give the Green & Gold the right to host at least two tournament games.
The Lions have seen a number of memorable moments in 2022-23, watching Fifth-year forward
Marty Jackson reach 2,000 career points, guard
Kanon Koster hitting the 1,000-point milestone, and achieving its first 20-win regular season since 2013-14. Now, the Lions have an opportunity Saturday to set a new program record in conference wins before heading into postseason play.
Koster has been red-hot in the last three games, averaging 29 points a contest entering Saturday. Jackson has been as equally lethal in the same span with a 27.3-point scoring average.
While Eckerd (9-16, 6-13 SSC) will see its season end Saturday, the Tritons nearly pulled off the upset of the year Wednesday, leading #1/#1 Nova Southeastern for 13 minutes before ultimately falling to the Sharks 88-78.
Earlier this season, Eckerd won the first meeting over Saint Leo in an 89-84 come-from-behind win in overtime.
Tipoff at the Marion Bowman Activities Center is slated for 6 p.m. Fans unable to attend can follow the live action from the links below:
