SAINT LEO, Fla. - In a fiercely contested matchup at the Marion Bowman Center, the Saint Leo Lions suffered a tough 65-54 loss to D'Youville Saints on day two of the Saint Leo Holiday Classic. The Lions fall to 8-3 on the season.
The first quarter set the tone for the matchup, with D'Youville taking an early lead at 24-13. Despite the initial setback, the Lions rallied in the subsequent quarters, displaying a spirited performance in the third quarter where they outscored the Saints 14-8. However, D'Youville's consistency secured the win in the end.
Taydra Simpson led the Lions with a strong showing, contributing 12 points and 10 rebounds.
Jumoke Adaramoye demonstrated her versatility with 8 points, 13 rebounds, and 2 assists.
Chynna Mattair showcased her scoring ability with 13 points off the bench.
Despite the loss, the Lions displayed resilience and fought until the final buzzer. The game was marked by intense defensive plays, with both teams vying for control. Second chance opportunities and contributions from the bench were key factors for Saint Leo.
Saint Leo will turn its focus to conference play as it heads to Rollins (Dec. 30) to close out the 2023 calendar year.
