Lakeland, FL – Saint Leo University and the University of North Georgia opened the 2023 Mocs Thanksgiving Classic on Friday at the Streamline Sale Court on the campus of Florida Southern College.
The Lions secured a victory in a back-and-fourth game against the #7/#10 Nighthawaks to improve to 3-2 on the season. The game was defined by intense competition, with standout performances on both sides. However, it was
Greyson Pritzl's exceptional display that stole the spotlight, as he scored a career and game-high 25 points to lead the Lions on Friday night.
"Great team effort knocking down a top-10 team in the country," said head coach
Lance Randall. " Greyson was a monster, Cantia was huge on the glass, Kanon stepped up huge in the second half. A great overall team defensive effort but Logan and Jeremy made some huge plays for us. I am proud of this group as that is a very talented and experienced North Georgia team. I was proud of our poise and will to win down the stretch."
The Lions controlled the first half with a 43-36 lead, shooting an impressive 55% from the field and 78% from three-point range. Despite facing a resilient North Georgia side in the second half, the Lions held their ground and secured the win.
Pritzl's 25-point performance, including six three-pointers, proved to be the defining factor in the Lions' victory. His clutch plays and scoring prowess propelled Saint Leo to a significant win.
In the closing moments of the game, the Lions displayed composure and executed crucial plays, securing the victory with a four-point margin.
The Lions showcased impressive shooting percentages, finishing the game at 41.8% from the field, 50.0% from beyond the arc, and 70.6% from the free-throw line. Pritzl's contributions extended beyond scoring, as he also recorded two assists and played a role in defensive stops.

th for a 5:30 tipoff against Catawba.
