Lions Fight Until the Final Buzzer, Fall Short in a Battle Against Clark Atlanta

Nov 11, 2023

Box Score SAINT LEO, FL - In a tough matchup that had fans on the edge of their seats, the Saint Leo Lions battled in an intense battle against Clark Atlanta, ultimately surrendered a narrow defeat 75-76. The game displayed the Lions' tenacity and skill, providing a glimpse of the thrilling season ahead.

The first quarter set the tone for a back-and-forth contest, with both teams exchanging blows. Corriana Evans of Clark Atlanta led the charge with 21 points. The Lions responded with a balanced offensive effort, as Alanis Diaz and Taydra Simpson contributed crucial points to keep the game within reach each scoring 13 points.

As the game progressed, Saint Leo faced adversity but refused to back down. The Lions mounted a comeback in the second quarter, shooting 42% from the field and 50% from three-point range.

The third and fourth quarters saw the Lions battling fiercely, showcasing their resilience on both ends of the court. Lauren McCrea and Olivia Agunzo made significant contributions off the bench, while the team's defense forced turnovers and created fast-break opportunities. Chynna Mattair and Andjela Pavicevic. The game saw an impressive 10 lead changes, reflecting the competitiveness and determination of both teams.

After a valiant effort, the Lions fell short to the Panthers to close out the SSC/SIAC challenge crossover splitting the weekend games 1-1.

Head Coach Anthony Crocitto had some thought after this weekend crossover: "Another game of resilience, but we can't turn the ball over and expect to win. We had seven players in foul trouble in the first half, so we never got rhythm to do what we need to do but that's no excuse. It's a game we could've won. We could have been 2-0 this weekend or 0-2 so 1-1 isn't so bad. We are young in terms of reps and consistency but growing every day.  We got to reboot and get ready for Wednesday at Tampa."

Although the Lions may have fallen short, their performance serves as a testament to their determination and skill. As the season progresses, fans can expect more exciting matchups and effort from the Green and Gold.

The Lions return to action next on Wednesday Nov 15th as they travel to University of Tampa to take on the Spartans. Tipoff is set to begin at 5:30 p.m.
