SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Saint Leo University Men's basketball team will look to get back over .500 in Sunshine State Conference play Saturday, as the Lions host Lynn University.
 
Saint Leo (11-5, 3-3 SSC) comes off a 77-71 win over Tampa, marking the first time the Lions defeated the Spartans at home since 2019.  The Green & Gold's field percentage offense returned to normal, finishing Wednesday's contest shooting 54.1% from the floor.  Guard Kanon Koster is off to a hot 2023 start, matching a career-high 31 points while shooting a combined 62.1% from the field.
 
While the team has had a tough start to the season, Lynn (3-9, 1-6 SSC) recently found success with its first conference victory with an 80-64 win against Palm Beach Atlantic.  Nordin Kopic also had a big night Wednesday, as the forward posted 29 points with 14 boards, including 2-for-3 from long range.
 
Kopic has quickly become a staple name for the Fighting Knights, as the rest of the conference has taken notice of the Freshman forward from Vienna, Austria.  Kopic averages 17.5 points (7th in SSC) while leading the conference in boards a game (10.0). Jimel Lane leads LU in scoring (17.8 points a contest), as Jalen Gilmore averages 3.8 assists. Defensively, Lynn has found opportunities to create chances, averaging 8.7 steals per game.
 
The Lions will look to tie the overall series with the Fighting Knights Saturday, as Lynn leads it 16-15.  Saint Leo holds a four-game win streak against the Fighting Knights.
