SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Saint Leo University Men's basketball team will host its first basketball game of the new year Wednesday night, as the Lions face University of Tampa in Sunshine State Conference play.
Saint Leo (10-5, 2-3 SSC) saw its four-game win streak come to an end again Sunday, at the hands of the Barry Buccaneers. The Lions will look to regroup at home, in which the Green & Gold are currently 4-1 on the season.
The Lions remain one of the more prolific shooting teams in the nation, averaging 51.5% from the field. Fifth-year forward
Marty Jackson's 60.1% field percentage is the third-best in the SSC.
Richard Schmidt and the Spartans (5-6, 4-1 SSC) are riding high into Wednesday night's showdown, winning four of its last five that includes a three-game winning streak. While Tampa's season got off to a rocky start, the Red, White & Black have bounced back and now solely hold second place in the conference.
Part of UT's recent success comes from its red-hot 3-pt. game, as the Spartans have averaged 50% from beyond the perimeter in the last three contests. Mykah Brown leads UT in scoring with 15.4 average, with the guard coming off 25 and 22-point performances this past weekend. Tyson Leitao averages 8.3 boards a game, with Binghamton transfer Yarden Willis posting 6.4 boards and 1.1 blocks a contest.
Tipoff at the Marion Bowman Activities Center is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Frank Orlando and Bill Fenlon will have the call, as fans can tune into the live action from the links below:
