Saint Leo Picks Up Dominant 97-56 Win Over Barry

SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Saint Leo University Men's basketball team made Alumni Night one to remember Saturday night, as the Lions' 3-pt. shooting blasted the Barry Buccaneers en route to a 97-56 at the Marion Bowman Activities Center.

The 41-point margin became the largest win for Saint Leo (14-7, 6-5 SSC) in its overall series with Barry (7-9, 3-8 SSC), snapping a three-game skid against the Buccaneers.

The Green & Gold shot 48.1% from long range, the fourth-highest mark on the season.  Defensively, the Lions held the Bucs under 40% from the floor and limited its long-range shooting to 25%.  Saint Leo forced a season-high 28 turnovers on Barry.

Guard Kanon Koster led Saint Leo with 24 points from a 60% shooting performance from the field with five assists and three steals.  Guard Grant Disken finished the night 5-of-10 from the court and 3-for-5 beyond the perimeter.

Right out of the gate, it appeared that the Buccaneers were setting the tone of the contest with an 8-2 lead in the first 70 seconds of play before the Lions responded with a blazing 20-4 run to take control of the momentum and the lead 22-12.

After Barry scored with 5:28 in the first half to cut Saint Leo's lead 30-23, the Green & Gold shut out the Bucs the rest of the half, scoring 18 unanswered to head into the locker room with a commanding 48-23 lead.

Following a Barry basket at the 16:09 mark to cut the deficit to 23 (59-36), Saint Leo spent the next nine minutes continuing to pour on the scoring, building a monstrous 32-8 run to build its largest lead of the game at 47 with a 91-44 lead.

With an insurmountable lead, Lions' reserves like Freshmen Kendale Johnson, James Prudhomme, Marshawn Robinson, and Chase Freymiller closed out the final six minutes of the game and secured the 97-56 win for the Green & Gold.

The Lions are back in action Wednesday night, as the team hits the road to battle RV/RV Florida Tech.  Tipoff at the Charles and Ruth Clemente Center is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
