SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Saint Leo Lions dropped a 3-0 decision (25-22, 25-14, 25-17) to the Florida Southern Moccasins in a Sunshine State Conference volleyball match-up on Saturday. The three-set decision moved the Lions' overall record to 5-7, 1-3 SSC while Florida Southern improved to 7-4, 2-2 in the league.
Elizabeth Sandoval and
Ally-Reese Williams paced the Green and Gold's offensive efforts with seven points apiece.
Kennedy DeLuca was also a big presence with six kills and a block. The trio was set up by
Skylar Singleton who compiled 23 assists and a dozen digs.
Defensively, the Lions saw
Jeanette Henderson crack double-digit digs with 11 followed by teammates
Isabella Velazquez and
Marysa Connors with eight and six digs, respectively.
How It Happened
In the opening set, the teams found themselves tied at 13 points apiece. A series of runs from both ends of the court handed Saint Leo a one-point deficit at 23-22. The visitors in blue and red struck with two quick last points to claim set one.
In set two, the Mocs' kept Saint Leo from stringing together more than a pair of points at a time, yielding a 25-14 set score.
Set three was a different story. The Lions'
Madi Certain fueled a 5-0 run from the service line in to cut the gap to four, 20-16. Despite the big run, it would prove too little too late to take the Mocs into a fourth set.

Saint Leo will return to the road for a five-match stretch. The Lions will open their travel stint at Palm Beach Atlantic on Friday, Sept. 23 at 7:00 p.m. The Green and Gold will turn around quickly and head south to face Barry on Saturday, Sept. 24 at 4:00 p.m.
