Softball Ends Regular Season With Series Win At Eckerd

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - Saint Leo Softball finished out the regular season on the road at Eckerd with an 8-3 win on Saturday, taking the series from the Tritons.

Saint Leo jumped out in front in the third inning with two runs. Bayley Williams roped a one-out RBI single to center that brought home Rachel Bean. Then Williams got into scoring position with a stolen base and Alexandra Hare brought her home with an infield RBI single that made it 2-0 Lions.

After Eckerd brought the game to even in the bottom of the third, the Lions struck right back with an Alyssa Perez sac-fly to center that scored Ciara Ford, giving the Lions the lead back at 3-2. In the fifth inning, Saint Leo put the nail in the coffin with four runs. A double steal worked to the Lions favor after a throwing error from the catcher allowing Williams to slide home and score. Then with Jordyn Wolfe on third, Hare had another RBI single to center that made it 5-2 Lions. The inning concluded with Alyssa Perez doubling home Hare and Hope Epps, making it 7-2 Lions.

Rachel Bean and Morgan Shannon together tossed a great game to keep Eckerd's offense quiet. Bean threw 3.1 innings of work, giving up just two runs on two hits while walking two and striking out one. Shannon came on in relief and earned her 12th win of the year, giving up just one run on three hits while walking one and striking out four.

The Lions finish the regular season with a 28-18 record and a 16-14 mark in the Sunshine State Conference. Saint Leo is currently ranked 10th in the NCAA South Region and will learn their fate for a NCAA Tournament berth when the brackets are announced on Monday morning in the NCAA Division II Softball Selection Show at 10:00 A.M.
