SAINT LEO, Fla. - Saint Leo Baseball dropped a tough one on Thursday afternoon to Lee in their first South Regional Game of the weekend, 17-7.
The Lions jumped on the Flames in the first inning with two big hits from
Bobby Sparling and
Adrien Roa. Sparling hit a sac fly to right that scored
Tyler Trovinger, and then
Adrien Roa doubled home
Sam Crail to put the Lions on top, 2-0.Â
But Lee found their rhythm in the heart of the game to take the momentum away from the Lions. The Flames struck for two runs in the third and fourth innings. In the top of the third, they used a wild pitch to get on the board and then a RBI groundout to tie the game. Then in the fourth, they used the big bats on a home run and double to take a 4-2 lead.Â
The nail in the coffin, however, came in the top of the seventh after the Flames scored five runs. A two-run home run gave Lee a 7-3 lead. They extended that to 10-3 on a run on a fielding error, and then a RBI double and single.Â
The Lions attempted a comeback late in the ballgame, cutting the lead to three with a pinch hit, three-run home run off the bat of
Giuseppe Arcuri, making the ballgame 10-7.Â
Saint Leo falls to 35-16 on the season and will play in an elimination game on Friday afternoon against the loser of #3 Rollins vs #6 Delta State at 2:00 with their season on the line.Â
