ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - Saint Leo Baseball picked up their third straight win on Tuesday night in a non-conference battle with Eckerd in St. Petersburg.Â
Adrien Roa got the scoring started for the Lions in the fourth inning with two-run home run to right, his eighth of the season, to put Saint Leo on top 2-0 after four. The Lions then broke away from the Tritons in the sixth with a four run inning.
Bobby Sparling led the inning off with his 17th home run of the season, a solo shot to left that gave Saint Leo a 3-1 lead. Then with one on and one out,
Mike Wyman hit his sixth double of the year to bring home the Lions' fourth run, making it 4-1 Saint Leo. The Lions then got back-to-back two out RBI singles of the bats of
Buck Anderson and
Tyler Trovinger that extended Saint Leo's lead to 6-1 after the top of the sixth inning.Â
After the Tritons picked up two more runs in the bottom of the sixth to cut into the lead,
Sam Crail got one of those runs back in the seventh with his fourth home run of the season and the Lions' third of the night to extend their lead to four. But Saint Leo wasn't done there, breaking the lead further open with four runs in the top of the eighth.
Yazael Nunez continued his tear at the plate with a RBI double that scored
Paul Coumoulos. The Lions then loaded the bases just to have Crail get hit by a pitch and walk in a run that made it 9-3 Saint Leo. Roa then picked up his team-high third RBI of the night on a RBI single that put the Lions up 10-3. Then a sac-fly from
Peyton Meredith completed the scoring on the night that brought home a run and gave Saint Leo an 11-3 lead.Â
The Lions' pitching on the night consisted of seven arms from the staff who combined for ten strikeouts, including three from
Nick Jennings.
Charles Lefebvre picked up the win, going 2.2 innings of work and striking out two.Â
Saint Leo improves to 24-12 on the season with the win and will now gear up for a three-game series at Florida Tech beginning on Friday night.Â
