SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Saint Leo women's lacrosse team rolled over the Palm Beach Atlantic Sailfish 18-4, on a hot Saturday Sunshine State Conference matchup, inside University Turf Stadium. Before the first draw, Saint Leo celebrated the class of 2022, made up of 10 different Lions:
Franki Dorfman,
Payton Juba,
Sam Bell,
Melissa Reeves,
Carson Clark,
Olivia Buthorn,
Meghan Bomleny,
Kaci Archer,
Mackenzie Cotter, and
Marisa Souchak.
Saint Leo whipped out five goals in the first quarter and six in the second while holding PBA to a single goal in the first half for the running clock advantage. The Green and Gold continued their dominance in the second half to record the conference win.
The Green and Gold's offense was paced by
Fiona McLaughlin,
Eliz Fino, and
Franki Dorfman, each with four points. McLaughlin found the net four times off seven shots. Fino tallied a pair of goals and assists.
Dorfman earned a career-high four goals. She registered the hat-trick in a matter of three minutes in the third quarter. The West Islip, N.Y. native found the back of the net again in the fourth for a total of four goals.
In goal, freshman
Makayla Goetz had a tremendous day. The Webster, N.Y. native earned seven stops in 45 minutes of work.
Rachel Smythe wrapped up the game in the net earning a save.
Up next, the Lions will travel to Winter Park, Fla. on Wednesday, April 20. Saint Leo will face Rollins in a 7:30 p.m. first draw.
Following a series of upsets in the league, Saint Leo is fighting for the third or fourth seeding in the SSC. The top four programs will advance to the SSC Tournament Championship. For the Lions, a ticket to the conference postseason would be a historic moment for the Saint Leo women's lacrosse, spearheaded by fifth-year head coach
