SAINT LEO, Fla. - Saint Leo Baseball, ranked 12th in Collegiate Baseball News Top 30 Poll, took down Florida Tech, 8-2, on Tuesday night and captured Head Coach
Rick O'Dette's 600th career head coaching win.Â
The Lions got all of their offense going in a five-run fourth inning. After
Adrien Roa singled and
Bobby Sparling walked, Eddie Niemann singled Roa home and tied the ballgame at 1-1.
Yazael Nunez then flied out to left and brought home Sparling to give the Lions the lead.
Zach Benson then pulled the Lions ahead further with a two-run single and made it 4-1 Saint Leo.
Tyler Trovinger tallied the fifth RBI with a single that gave the Lions a four run lead at 5-1.Â
Saint Leo would tack on three more in the seventh after surrendering a run in the top of the seventh.
Bryan Pena brought two home on a RBI single, and
Buck Anderson added another run on a RBI single to center to make it 8-2 Lions.Â
Charles Lefebvre had a brilliant outing on the mound for the Lions, giving up just two runs on five hits with two strikeouts and just one walk.Â
For head coach
Rick O'Dette, this marks win number 600 in his 22-year head coaching career. O'Dette compiled a 494-407-4 record in 17 seasons at St. Joseph's College in Indiana. Then in 2017, O'Dette took over as the skipper of the Lions, and has put together a 106-81 record while wearing the Green & Gold. His first win with the Lions came on February 3, 2018 in a doubleheader at Alabama-Huntsville, beating the Chargers 7-4 in game one.Â
Saint Leo improves to 27-13 on the season and 18-4 at Thomas B. Southard Stadium in 2022. The Lions will now have the weekend off for Easter before welcoming Valdosta State to Saint Leo for a matchup with the Blazers on Tuesday, April 12 at 5:00 P.M.Â
