Saint Leo falls in Friday night battle with #9 Rollins

Box Score SAINT LEO, Fla. - Saint Leo Baseball was a dealt a tough loss on Friday night at Thomas B. Southard Stadium, 8-1, hosting NCBWA #9 Rollins in the two club's series opener. 

The Lions kept the Tars at bay for better of the first half of the game, with both teams going scoreless for the first five innings. Saint Leo starter Brayden Heidel battled tough, getting out of a tough jam in the fourth. With two on and nobody out, Heidel made the next three batters hit into outs to escape the jam. 

It was the sixth inning that Rollins broke through for four runs. A run on a wild pitch and a three-run home run made the difference to allow the Tars to break open a 4-0 lead. They then tacked on two more in the seventh on a two-run single to go up 6-0 on Saint Leo. 

Heidel went 5.1 innings of work in his eighth start of the year. He finished the night giving up four runs on seven hits while striking out three to bring his season total to 30 strikeouts. 

The Lions' offense was held to one run on four hits against Rollins. The lone run came in the bottom of the eighth inning when Buck Anderson brought home Tyler Trovinger from third on a sac fly to center. 

The Lions and Tars will be back in action for game two of the series on Saturday afternoon, with first pitch scheduled for 3:00 at Thomas B. Southard Stadium.
