Jared Beck was named the National College Baseball Writers of America (NCBWA) South Region Pitcher of the Week for the week ending on Sunday, March 13.
Beck earned the national award after pitching a seven-inning shutout performance against Barry last Friday night at Thomas B. Southard Stadium. The senior from Davenport, Iowa gave up just four hits and two walks while striking out 12 batters. He helped the Lions en route to a 13-0 win in game one of the series.Â
Jared Beck was also named Sunshine State Conference Pitcher of the Week this past Monday. It was the first time in Beck's career to receive such honors.Â
Founded in 1962, the NCBWA is dedicated to the advancement of college baseball. Membership is open to writers, broadcasters and publicists of the sport. Members receive a membership card, directory, newsletter updates and official votes in the Howser Award Player of the Year, Regional Player of the Year and NCBWA All-America voting. The NCBWA also sponsors preseason All-America awards, publication and writing contests.
Saint Leo Baseball is set to begin a three-game series with #5 Tampa on Friday night at UT Baseball Field. That's when Beck and the Lions will face the NCBWA South Region Hitter of the Week in the Spartans' EJ Cumbo.Â
