SERIES SWEEP! Lions Sweep Barry, Have Won 10 In A Row

SAINT LEO, Fla. - Saint Leo Baseball have won ten in a row after a series sweep of Barry and a 12-8 win over the Buccaneers on Sunday.

Saint Leo again put up double digits on the Bucs after the Lions started out the game with a four-run first inning. Bobby Sparling got it going with his 13th home run of the year to deep right, a two-run shot giving the Lions a 2-1 lead. Sparling now doesn't just lead the team and conference in home runs, but as of this release, he leads all of NCAA Division II baseball in the home run category.

Mike Wyman then singled Eddie Niemann and Adrien Roa home on a hard hit ball to left to extend Saint Leo's lead to 4-1. The RBI's gave Wyman his 11th and 12th on the season. Sparling then continued his tear at the plate with a RBI single to center that brought home the speedy Yazael Nunez to make it 5-1 Lions. After Sunday, Sparling has an SSC leading 44 RBI's on the season.

After Barry closed the gap to 5-3, Sparling delivered again with a two-run RBI single to center that brought home Nunez and Trovinger, making it 7-3 Saint Leo in the fourth.

The win for the Lions wouldn't come without some drama, however. The Buccaneers tied the game in the sixth at 7-7. That's when Eddie Niemann blooped a two-run single to right center that brought home Sam Crail and Buck Anderson to regain the lead for the Lions at 9-7. Then in the seventh, Tyler Trovinger hit his first home run of the season to right to make it 10-7 Saint Leo. That was followed by a RBI triple Sam Crail that scored Anderson, and then a Sparling RBI single that brought home Crail, making it 12-7 Saint Leo. After Sunday, Sparling has an SSC leading 44 RBI's on the season.

Saint Leo improves to 17-7 on the season and 5-4 in the Sunshine State Conference. The Lions now get set to head to Tampa on Friday and Saturday this coming week for a three-game series with the NCBWA #5 Tampa.
