DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Saint Leo women's tennis team, ranked ninth in the nation, clipped the Eagles of Embry-Riddle, 5-2, on Wednesday in the Lions' Sunshine State Conference opener. The victory improved Saint Leo to 2-0, 1-0 in the SSC.
Saint Leo clinched the doubles point seeing wins in the first and second flights. First singles duo,
Nina Furmaniak and
Alina Fedulova handed in a 6-3 decision while
Marta Vicens Miquel and
Lavinia Lancellotti took third doubles, 6-3.
Vicen Miquel, ranked 29
th national in singles, caged her Eagle foe, 6-0, 6-1 in the first flight.
Lavinia Lancellotti also won both of her doubles and singles matches. Lancellotti topped her sixth flight opponent, 6-2, 6-2.
The Lions return to action at the Saint Leo Tennis Center on Saturday, Feb 12 to host Palm Beach Atlantic, starting at 1:00 p.m.
