Men’s Tennis Places Third at ITA National Indoor Championship

Box Score INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Saint Leo men's tennis team took third place at the 2022 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division II Men's Indoor Championship on Sunday. The Lions defeated South Region foe West Florida, 4-1, to take bronze in the national tournament and raise their record to 4-2.
 
Down 1-0 after the doubles point went the Argonauts way, Saint Leo came back to win during singles action. Bruno Faletto won first singles 6-2, 7-5. The senior from Santiago, Chile went 2-0 on the day following he and his partner, Willem van den Akker's first doubles win, 6-4.
 
Vincent Thiel rolled to a 6-0, 6-4 third flight win to lift Saint Leo 2-1 over West Florida. Brad Eidenmuller then topped his opponent in sixth singles, 6-4, 6-2.
 
Up 3-1, the remaining matches each headed into the third set. Luis Iriarte clinched the match in come back fashion. The sophomore from Valencia, Venezuela dropped the first set 2-6 and then fought back 6-3, 6-3 for the victory.
 
Saint Leo will return to the Sunshine State for a non-conference tilt at Flagler on Saturday, Feb 26. The Saints and Lions first serve is set for 1:00 p.m. in St. Augustine, Fla.
