Saint Leo sweeps doubleheader at Flagler with 11-4 win

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. - Saint Leo Baseball swept the doubleheader with Flagler on Saturday with an 11-4 win in game two, taking the three-game series over the Saints before continuing their long road stretch.

The Lions jumped on the Saints quickly in the first inning by grabbing a 3-0 lead. Mike Wyman continued his impressive day at the plate with a RBI double down the right field line scoring both Bobby Sparling and Sam Crail. Wyman then came around to score on an Adrien Roa RBI single.

In the top of the fourth inning, Yazael Nunez was able to break out of his slump with a RBI double that scored Mike Wyman and increased the Lions' lead to 4-1. Later in the sixth inning, Wyman stayed red hot hitting his first home run of the season, a solo shot to left that gave Saint Leo a 5-2 lead.

The Lions then put the nail in the coffin against Flagler six-run eighth inning. RBI singles from Nunez, Buck Anderson, and Sparling, two stolen bases, a first pitch bunt from Adrien Roa, and a fielding error all made up the wild inning that was the eighth inning for the Lions, leading to six runs on six hits to secure the 11-4 win for the Green and Gold.

Pitching wise, Brayden Heidel got the start for the Lions, going 4.2 innings of work giving up just two runs on five hits while striking out six. He was relieved by Luke Pappas in the fifth inning. Pappas got the win, going 3.1 innings surrendering two runs while striking out five. Dylan Broderick finished the Saints off in the ninth with a couple strikeouts.

Saint Leo now stands at 6-2 on the season, sitting in fifth place in the Sunshine State Conference. The Lions will stay on the road for a Wednesday trip to Valdosta State in Valdosta, Georgia before taking on Florida Southern in their first SSC series of the year beginning next Friday.
