SAINT LEO, Fla – The Saint women's basketball team returns to action this weekend after enjoying a holiday break. The Lions will host visiting Flagler College Friday afternoon and then travel to Miami Shores for a New Year's day matinee conference showdown on Sunday.
Last Game
The Lions took on Davenport University to close out the Holiday Classic before heading into the Holiday Break. The Green & Gold defeated the Panthers 84-67 to finish the tournament at an even 1-1 record.
Alex Button reached a career milestone in Daytona Beach on December 17th. The fifth-year player from Cohocton, N.Y., put up a team-high 26 points to surpass 1,000 career points. Button became the newest member of the 1,000-point club and now holds 1,001 points. The milestone afternoon raised the green and Gold's record to 8-3 overall.
Players to Watch
Amanda Ulrich leads the Green & Gold in scoring at 197 points so far this season. The Senior has been averaging 17.9 points per game and averaging 32.1 minutes per game. From the field, she has been shooting .522 (72-of-138) and .375 (29-of-36) from three-point range.
Button has been essential for the Lions' offense, currently ranking second on the team in points with her 169 points. She is currently leading the Green & Gold from downtown shooting .500 (25-of-50).
Kiki McIntyre currently ranks first in the conference in steals with 36 through her first nine games. She is currently averaging 3.3 steals-per-game and looks to pace the Lions' defense.
Scouting Flagler & Barry
Flagler heads into Friday's non-conference showdown currently sporting an overall record of 3-8 and 0-2 in conference play. The Saints are led by three-year head coach Mo Smith. Sophomore Guard Sharale McCormick leads the Saints in points with 161 points. She is currently averaging a team-high 14.6 points-per-game. Flagler College enters Friday's game currently averaging 60.8 points per game.
Sunshine State Conference Opponent Barry University will welcome the Lions for their 12
th game this season. The Bucs currently sit at 6-5 overall and 1-2 in the SSC. Barry currently sits in eighth place in the SSC. The Bucs are led by three-year head coach Kristina Baugh. Chiara Fusari currently heads into Sunday's matchup leading the Bucs in scoring with 135 points.
