SAINT LEO, Fla. – Less than 48 hours removed from its trip to Puerto Rico, the Saint Leo University Men's basketball team returned home to conclude 2022 with a 94-74 win over Fontbonne Monday afternoon at the Marion Bowman Activities Center.

Marty Jackson surpassed 20 points, registering 24 on the day with his second double-double of the season with 13 boards, along with three assists and three blocks. Sophomore guard
Grant Disken tallied 17 points, shooting 50% from the field. Guard
Kanon Koster scored eight points but recorded a season-high six assists with two steals and one solo block.
The Lions (11-4, 2-2 SSC) shot over 57% as a whole and just under 43% from long range. After an opening basket from Fontbonne (4-7), the Lions responded with two baskets that would give the Green & Gold the lead for good. Following Fontbonne's equalizing basket, the Lions went on a 12-0 run that kept the Griffins scoreless for nearly four and a half minutes to extend its lead 16-4. The team from St. Louis, Mo. quickly turned the tide, responding with a 12-5 run that cut the deficit to five at the nine-minute mark (21-16) before Saint Leo ultimately pushed its first-half lead as far as 19 points. The Griffins closed out the half with a steal and score from long range, as the Lions took a 47-31 lead into the half.
Fontbonne would not go away quietly, sparking a second half comeback run that closed the gap to three (64-61) with 10:27 remaining. Just when the Griffins were set to take the lead, Saint Leo's scoring offense was rejuvenated, igniting a 19-4 run over a 6:20 span that ultimately led to the Lions' 94-74 victory to pick up its 11th win of the season.
Saint Leo will enjoy the rest of its holiday break before resuming action New Year's Day against Barry, with tipoff set for 4 p.m.
