SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Saint Leo University volleyball team (11-17, 4-13 SSC) dropped Saturday's senior night match in straight sets against Lynn University (21-5, 13-4 SSC).
Lynn University took the match against Saint Leo by set scores of 17-25, 21-25, 19-25.
Saint Leo honored thier six seniors,
Elizabeth Sandoval,
Morgan Leadens,
Ally-Reese Williams,
Skylar Singleton,
Kennedy DeLuca and
Madi Certain as part of their senior day ceremony prior to the match.
Sophomore
Colby Stempkowski and Senior
Madi Certain led the Lions offense with a team-high seven kills-a-piece.
Jeanette Henderson led Saint Leo defense notching seven digs on the night.
The two teams kicked off the first set with a close battle, trading points until the set reached double-digits. The Fighting Knights were able to pull away from the Lions to take the first set thanks to Nadia Linder's offensive effort. Lynn would hit for their best percentage of the match during the first set at .405. Stempkowski and Certain led the Lions offense with three kills-a-piece in the first set.
Lynn jumped out to a quick 9-1 run to start the second set. The Fighting Knights match-high nine-point run would be the difference maker in the set as they never looked back after taking a commanding lead. Freshman
Julia Panko would see action in the second set and help the Lions offense with three kills.
The Lions capitalized on several early set attack errors by the Fighting Knights to obtain an early lead to start the third set. The two teams would trade points until a Kenidy Howard solo block would kickstart the Fighting Knights and ultimately grab the lead and the match from the Lions.
