SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Saint Leo University Men's basketball team will host its home opener Tuesday night as the Lions square off against Johnson University in a non-conference contest.
 
The Green & Gold (1-1) nearly pulled off the perfect weekend in Huntsville, Ala., falling by eight to #21 Alabama-Huntsville before rebounding the next day with a win against Montevallo.  The Bill Penney Classic displayed Saint Leo's best from both sides of the ball, ranging from a defensive effort that limited the host Chargers to 65 or fewer points for the third time in the 2022 calendar year to posting 90+ points against the Falcons that saw five Lions post double-digit scoring marks.
 
Sophomore Grant Disken heads into the midweek contest with an impressive 50% average from the floor, including over 37% from long range, to lead the team in points per game (17.5).
 
The transfers have also made an early impact for the Lions.  Redshirt Senior Guard Kanon Koster also averages over 37% from beyond the perimeter, nearly averaging a double-double with 12.5 points and eight boards a game, while Fifth-Year Forward Marty Jackson boasts over 62% from the floor, also nearing a double-double average with 12.5 points and 8.5 rebounds a contest.
 
As a whole, the Lions' offensive and defensive field percentages has been practically identical; the Green & Gold hold a .438 percentage compared to its opponents (.427) while the 3-pt. range has shown Saint Leo at .310 versus its opponents' .314.
 
Outside of a poor, offensive showing against Warner, Johnson (0-3) has found a way to post 80+ points in its other contests, including a recent showing against Lynn in which the Suns fell 100-81.  Daquion Vickers leads Johnson in scoring, averaging nearly 18 points a game that included a career-high 32 points against the Fighting Knights Saturday.  Ak'Mee Burton will provide a challenge for the Lions in the paint, boasting a season-average 14 points and 11 boards a game.
