SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Saint Leo University volleyball team could not overcome Eckerd College Saturday afternoon, falling to the Tritons in three sets at the Marion Bowman Activities Center.
For the second, consecutive match, Seniors
Elizabeth Sandoval and
Ally-Reese Williams led the Lions with 10 kills apiece. Reese-Williams additionally recorded a double-double, notching 12 digs on the day.
Both sides alternated points up to a 6-6 tie before the Lions (5-12, 1-8 SSC) took a slim advantage to lead 15-12. The Tritons (12-4, 4-4 SSC) flipped the momentum script on the Green & Gold with a 7-2 run that proved to be the difference to take a 25-21 Set One win.
After EC began with a 9-5 lead, Saint Leo kept the score line close in the second set, cutting the deficit to one (13-12) before the Tritons responded with a 6-1 run to take its largest lead of the set at 19-13. The span once again was the difference-maker in a tightly-contested set, as Eckerd won the second set 25-20.
After the Green & Gold took a slim 17-16 in Set Three, the Tritons took a 5-1 run to post a late 21-18 lead. Saint Leo responded by scoring three of the next four points before the Tritons completed their sweep with the final three points for another 25-21 set win.
The Lions will take a break from conference as the Green & Gold head to Birmingham, Ala. for the Gulf South/Sunshine State Crossover Challenge. Stay tuned for schedule announcements.
